Senior Education Attorney

Main Areas of Responsibility: 

New Mexico Center on Law and Poverty seeks an experienced attorney to carry out litigation, policy advocacy and outreach to transform the state’s public education system.

Additional Areas of Responsibility: 

The attorney will work with educational leaders throughout New Mexico on major policy reforms and litigation related to education, including compliance with the landmark Yazzie court ruling that requires a sufficient public education system for students and comprehensive program and funding reforms (learn more at www.nmpovertylaw.org/our-work/education/).

Other Information/Requirements: 

Required: minimum seven years as an attorney; strong leadership and strategic thinking skills; passionate about education policy, racial justice and community lawyering; excellent litigator, writer and researcher; ability to manage complex projects; ‘no-stone-unturned’ thoroughness and persistence. Preferred: Spanish speaker, experience with lobbying, coalition-building and media.
