Public Relations Coordinator

Job Description
Main Areas of Responsibility: 

Americans for Indian Opportunity (AIO) is seeking a talented candidate to join our team as Public Relations Coordinator. In this position, you will gain valuable real-world experience helping AIO promote the organization’s programs, initiatives and events to constituents and the community at large. In addition, a key part of your role will include writing correspondence for AIO’s president and founder, LaDonna Harris (Comanche), and responding to incoming information requests.

Additional Areas of Responsibility: 

Responsibilities will include:
•Building relationships with local, regional & national media
•Pitching story ideas to various media
•Managing the creation of AIO’s newsletter, The Ambassador, including creating & maintaining a timeline, soliciting news updates & photos, & writing articles
•Arranging and scheduling meetings and/or interviews for AIO executive staff
•Managing AIO’s social media presence
•Writing press releases, articles, op/eds, or award nominations

•Recent graduate, or current undergrad or graduate student, preferably studying Mass Communication, Communication or Journalism
•Excellent verbal and written communication skills
•Knowledge or experience developing PR campaigns
•Willingness to work in a highly collaborative environment
•Ability to work 30+ hours per week
