Mid- or Upper-Level Trainer

Main Areas of Responsibility: 

Assist program in training service dogs for veterans afflicted with post-traumatic stress disorder and/or traumatic brain injury. Full-time position as a mid/upper-level trainer. Minimum 6-month probation. Potential wage increase following completion of probation. Potential for future promotion into higher Trainer positions. Position offered and initial salary are contingent on level of experience.

Additional Areas of Responsibility: 

Trainers conduct training for Veteran/Service Dog Teams in 1-on-1 and group settings, provide support to enrollees and graduates, and maintain necessary records. Attend staff meetings, and other program meetings and training events. Trainers also track Veteran/Service Dog Team progress, file reports and fulfill other Programs Department duties as needed. Some staff oversight.

Other Information/Requirements: 

Minimum of 5 years dog training experience using non-aversive, force-free, bond based and reward based techniques. Physically able to handle large, untrained dogs. Be mobile in training settings for hours at a time. Must have reliable transportation. Require a background check and mental health screening (upon offer of employment).Preferred skills: Experience working with military, post-traumatic stress disorder, and/or traumatic brain injury. Experience training service dogs, especially co-owner trained.
