Mental Health/Disability Specialist

Main Areas of Responsibility: 

Design/implement multidisciplinary, evidence-based, responsive approaches/practices that promote mental wellness/behavioral health in pregnant women, children and their families. Direct process of identification of children with disabilities and pregnant women/parents who need services and support. Refer to/monitor early intervention, special education, mental health and/or other community services.

Additional Areas of Responsibility: 

Schedule and direct the work of the Mental Health Consultants. Establish and maintain positive and productive partnerships with staff and families and meaningful collaboration with community partners. Adhere to early learning and family support principles, Head Start Performance Standards, the Head Start Act, Americans with Disabilities Act, the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act and other applicable laws and regulations.

Other Information/Requirements: 

• Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Special Education, Human Services or related field
• Minimum of three years of experience in Early Childhood or a related field
• Demonstrable experience with early intervention, disabilities, special needs, and working with at-risk children and challenging behaviors.
• Bilingual Preferred (English/Spanish)
• Valid New Mexico’s Driver’s License
• Current First Aid/CPR Certifications or willing to obtain
