Medical Coding Intern

Main Areas of Responsibility: 

Working under direct supervision and guidance, will assign appropriate Evaluation and Management (E and M) levels for outpatient office visits following medical record review and assure that documentation by providers conforms to compliance and legal requirements.

Additional Areas of Responsibility: 

Under direct guidance and supervision, review and analyze medical records for E and M levels for consultations and office visits for new or established patients in order to assign appropriate CPT codes. With direct guidance and supervision, identify and review documentation in an Electronic Medical Record (EMR) environment to ensure that all required signatures and addendums are present in the medical record.

Other Information/Requirements: 

High school diploma or GED. Certification in at least one of the following: RHIT, RHIA, RCC, CSS, CCA, CCS-P, COC, CIC, CPC, CPC-P or CPC-A, or must obtain upon successful completion of UNMMG Medical Coding Internship Program. Verification of education and licensure will be required if selected for hire.
