ESL Instructor, Grades 6-12

Job Description
Main Areas of Responsibility: 

The school programs instructor will teach newly arrived refugee students in LFS’s out-of-school-time academic programs at Highland HS. The teacher will help students develop skills & improve their performance in the following areas: English proficiency, reading, listening, math, academic school system, appropriate school behavior, study skills & critical thinking.

Additional Areas of Responsibility: 

Implementing lesson plans & leading other educational activities, such as hosting guest speakers or supervising field trips; administering ESL testing to determine English instruction placement; adapting curriculum materials to individualize instruction for students of various ability levels; work collaboratively with Parent Engagement Specialist & Refugee Mental Health subcontractor & all other academic & social adjustment providers

Other Information/Requirements: 

Candidates should possess the following qualifications: BA from 4 yr. institution & 2+ years of experience working w/ ELLs; ESL certification is preferred. Other qualifications include: cross-cultural sensitivity; broad knowledge of ESL methodological approaches for teaching a variety of subjects; high level of comfort w/ public speaking or teaching environment; ability to self-start & be a team player; no criminal history as demonstrated by clean reports on background/fingerprint checks.
