Main Areas of Responsibility: 

The Director of the New Mexico Legal Aid LITC is responsible for the successful completion and coordination of income tax controversy casework, including litigation, for the Clinic team, as well for outreach, client education and grant reporting. All cases involve federal or New Mexico income tax, including IRS audits, IRS and NMTRD administrative appeals, and U.S. Tax Court cases.

Additional Areas of Responsibility: 

Candidates must have excellent writing and analytical skills, be quick learners, be committed to extensive service for clients, and be able to handle a demanding caseload while building collaborative relationships with clients, staff and the community. Participation in the ABA LITC Listserv expected.

Other Information/Requirements: 

Requirements: Six to ten years’ experience as licensed attorney preferred. Income tax course work and practice experience preferred. Admission to practice in New Mexico and before the U.S. Tax Court, if not at hire then soon after. Travel to the annual LITC conference in Washington, D.C. and to occasional outreach events. Participation in the ABA Tax Section a plus.
