Conservation Director (Policy and Program)

Job Description
Main Areas of Responsibility: 

New Mexico Wildlife Federation, founded in 1914 by Aldo Leopold and today is New Mexico's oldest, most effective sportsman's conservation organization, seeks a Conservation Director to oversee development and implementation of policies and programs.
This position:
• Provides leadership in developing program and advocacy plans with partners, staff and board.
• Works with various stakeholders at the national, state, and local level in implementing initiatives.

Additional Areas of Responsibility: 

• Maintains a working knowledge of significant developments and trends.
• Identifies program components/strategies to achieve success.
• Assures deliverables are met and goals achieved in a timely manner.
• Engages in advocacy and policy development.
• Develops and disseminates issue briefs/white papers on various policy issues.
• Oversees and coordinates field organizers.
• Maintains a climate that attracts, engages, motivates and retains staff.

Other Information/Requirements: 

Preferred education, skills and experience:
• BA/BS degree.
• 5-plus years organizing/policy management experience.
• Knowledgeable about agencies and politics of public land and wildlife conservation.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong project and time management skills.
• Highly organized and detail-oriented.
• Driven to meet or exceed deadlines and deliverables.
• Excellent social skills.
• Enjoy working independently and as part of a team.
