Communications & Marketing Assistant (UNM Work Study)

Job Description
Main Areas of Responsibility: 

Applicants MUST be UNM students with a work study award. If you do not have work study at UNM, do not apply. This position reports directly to the communication and marketing director.

Essential Functions:
• Maintain press database after MLP media appearances
• Provide support to social media and website activity
• Maintain media archives
• Assist director with projects as needed
• Pitch stories to journalists
• Develop content for communications and marketing as assigned

Additional Areas of Responsibility: 

Minimum Qualifications:
• Experience or coursework in communications, journalism, and/or marketing
• Interest in social justice and/or non-profits
• Comfortable working with MLP’s clients and constituents, including youth, people of color, immigrant, and LGBTQ communities
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Ability to work independently
• Applicants must have a vehicle and valid driver’s license
• Work-study award

Other Information/Requirements: 

Preferred Qualifications:
• Knowledge of non-profits
• Understanding of social justice frameworks
• Experience writing for public relations or marketing
• Interest in deconstructing media
• Some knowledge of AP style
• Some experience in video editing, graphic design, social media and/or website content development (Drupal) a plus
• Bilingual Spanish/English is a plus, but not required
