Communications Director

Full-Time
Main Areas of Responsibility: 

Lead development of strategic communication plan
Coordinate with staff at NMILC to advance strategic organizational/policy goals
Develop/implement comprehensive communications strategies to build public & political support for program goals; contribute to movement building around NMILC’s mission & End Family Separation Campaign
Develop/continue relationships with local & national media by pitching client stories, reports, litigation, & additional materials to advance NMILC’s image & goals

Additional Areas of Responsibility: 

Quickly respond to daily changing media environment; develop rapid response materials for the news of the day
Draft educational & advocacy materials on emerging policy issues
Work in formal & informal coalitions of legal and community-based organizations; draft & edit statements, reports, & other jointly-produced product
Influence narrative in media: place op-eds & letters in media outlets, field & log media requests, plan & organize press conferences, distribute press releases

Other Information/Requirements: 

Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, or other relevant field, and a minimum of 3 years related work experience OR minimum of 2 years of related professional experience and a Juris Doctorate or Masters degree in related field
Bilingual (English and Spanish) preferred
Substantial experience working with national media reporters and producers
Substantial experience developing media strategies to garner favorable press coverage
