Grantmaking Program Area Descriptions:

Disaster & Emergency Response Grants: Disasters may include emergencies that do not receive an official declaration by the jurisdictional authority. Examples include animal disease outbreaks in shelters, infrastructure damage, and emergencies that directly impact the daily operational functions of an organization. In addition, grants will be considered for organizations that have not been directly impacted by a disaster but are helping another organization in need, for example, the intake of animals from an impacted area. At this time, the ASPCA is especially interested in funding disaster preparedness planning by animal welfare organizations and agencies.

Grants for Animal Shelters & Animal Control: High volume adoption events. Equipment that is part of a program implementation to reduce shelter intake (e.g. traps for a TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) program, ID tagging machines and tags). Adoption, RTO (Return-to-Owner) or any live release marketing campaigns that are program-targeted and have identified impact and methodology. Foster and foster-to-adoption programs for at-risk animals. Training that supports efforts to increase Live Release Rates or increase capacity for lifesaving programs. Safety net programs for at-risk animals (e.g. a pet food bank to keep animals in their homes).

Non-sheltering Organizations & Spay/Neuter Programs: The ASPCA is particularly interested in funding spay/neuter programs that target specific geographic areas to reduce shelter intake of kittens/puppies or unaltered adult cats/dogs; allow owned cats and /or dogs to remain in their home through subsidized low-cost spay/neuter assistance and vouncher programs; and divert community cats for spay/neuter and return to site of trapping versus an animal care facility. The ASPCA will consider applications for spay/neuter programs that aim to increase capacity for live disposition of shelter animals in an efficient manner; increase the number of animals served (publicly owned, free-roamin, and /or rescue animals); purchase equipment that will enable a greater number of animals to be served and/or high-quality spay/neuter to be implemented; and/or measure impact of spay/neuter by evaluation of available community data.

Grants to Fight Animal Cruelty: Supports private organizations and public agencies dedicated to the prevention and elimination of animal cruelty throughout the United States. Prevention of and response to animal cruelty, including but not limited to: animal cruelty investigation programs, large-scale seizures (puppy mills, hoarding, animal fighting), expenses incurred as a result of cruelty seizures; (such as veterinary care, housing, transport, spay/neuter, and placement), outreach programs aimed at preventing or eliminating animal cruelty, and advocacy for anti-cruelty ordinances and legislation.

Equine Fund Grants: Provides grants to U.S. nonprofit equine welfare organizations and other animal welfare organizations that care for horses, mules, donkeys and ponies – both wild and domestic – in alignment with our efforts to protect all equines. Equine Fund grants support equine organizations that strive to achieve best practices, including maintenance of updated websites and robust fundraising practices, as well as excellent animal care.

Scholarships and Sponsorships: These two categories of support include: 1) Scholarships/stipends for organizations to help staff attend animal welfare conferences or other training directly related to animal welfare, and 2) Sponsorships of conferences, training, and other events directly related to animal welfare that are hosted and/or presented by animal welfare organiztions.

Partnership Grants: ASPCA Partnership grants, typically solicited by an ASPCA Partner liaison, challenge communities across the nation to work together to improve the well-being of the animal population through projects that rescue animals from abuse, advance humane laws, share resources with shelters nationwide, and provide hands-on animal care and advocacy programs.
