Mission Statement:

Big Brothers Big Sisters of San Juan County exists to help children reach their potential through professionally supported one-to-one relationships with measurable impact.

Primary Programs:

Big Brothers Big Sisters School Based Program matches a volunteer with a child at participating schools. Time commitment is once a week for the academic year. An on-site BBBS case manager oversees the program and provides on-going support. Our Community Based Program matches children with an adult role model. The pair plans their activities, and meets at least twice a month. Each one-to-one relationship is supported by a case manager.

We surveyed local teachers at the end of the 2006/07 school year to determine the impact our volunteers where making in lives of the children we serve. The results were astonishing.

Children served displayed:

• 54% increase in academic performance

• 68% increase in class participation

• 68% improvement in classroom behavior

• 73% improvement in avoiding delinquency

Our matches are effective because professional staff ensure that the relationships are safe and rewarding for everyone involved.
