The Zia Singers
MISSION
The Zia Singers, led by Artistic Director John Tiranno, is a nonprofit community chorus in Santa Fe, New Mexico whose mission is to promote the joy of women’s choral singing through public performance, education, and outreach. Membership includes a diverse group of women, with ages spanning from 20's to 80's. Their backgrounds encompass a wide range of prior musical experience.
The Zia Singers presents a dynamic season of performances that celebrates the power, beauty, and diversity of women’s voices. Through thoughtfully curated concert programs, the ensemble brings together music from a wide range of traditions, eras, and contemporary composers, creating meaningful experiences for both singers and audiences. Each season explores timely themes and stories that connect music to community, culture, and the lived experiences of women. Programs may include beloved choral works, lesser-known repertoire, and new music that expands the artistic possibilities of treble voices. The Zia Singers is committed to performances that are engaging, accessible, and artistically ambitious, while creating opportunities to highlight underrepresented composers and perspectives. Through its concert series, the ensemble strengthens community connections, inspires audiences, and demonstrates how choral music can illuminate shared experiences and bring people together.
Beyond its concert season, The Zia Singers expands its impact through partnerships, commissions, outreach, and special performance opportunities. Collaborations with National Dance Institute (NDI) bring singers and young dancers together through joint performances, student engagement, and interdisciplinary arts experiences. The ensemble also supports the future of choral music by commissioning and premiering new works, with an emphasis on expanding repertoire for women’s voices and highlighting diverse composers and perspectives. Community outreach brings live choral music into schools, cultural organizations, and other accessible settings, helping build new audiences and strengthen connections across New Mexico. An upcoming performance at Carnegie Hall on June 13, 2027, will provide singers with an exceptional artistic opportunity while showcasing the talent and cultural vitality of New Mexico on a national stage. Together, these programs deepen The Zia Singers’ artistic mission and community impact.
