Mission Statement:

Silver City Street Outreach exists to meet people where they are—on the streets—with compassion, dignity, and respect. We provide essential resources such as food, water, and clothing, along with harm reduction, basic street medicine, and pathways to substance use recovery. Our mission is to reduce suffering, promote wellness, and build trust with unhoused and marginalized individuals in Silver City by offering consistent, nonjudgmental support and connecting them to long-term care and community-based solutions.

Primary Programs:

Silver City Street Outreach provides low‑barrier, peer‑led services for unhoused and marginalized community members in Grant County. Our primary programs include syringe services and community‑based harm reduction (sterile syringes, safer smoking and snorting supplies, naloxone distribution, and overdose prevention education); mobile street outreach; basic street medicine and wound care; peer support and navigation to health, recovery, housing, and social services; and operation of a drop-in center offering safe daytime shelter, food, and hot beverages. Our programs are grounded in harm reduction, dignity, and lived experience, meeting people where they are and responding to urgent public health and safety needs in a rural setting.

Other Programs:

In addition to our primary harm reduction and outreach services, Silver City Street Outreach (SCSO) provides several complementary, non‑primary programs that strengthen community wellbeing and safety. These include distribution of food, water, clothing, hygiene supplies, and seasonal items; operation of a community drop‑in and peer advocacy space; volunteer‑led meal support and mutual aid coordination; community education on overdose prevention and crisis response; and collaboration with local partners to support non‑police crisis intervention, warming and cooling center efforts, and public health emergency response. These programs help reduce isolation, address immediate survival needs, and build trust and connection among people who are often excluded from traditional services.
