Ski Apache Disabled Skiers' Program
To provide ski and/or snowboard instruction to any person with a permanent disability, regardless of the type or extent of disability or financial limitation.
Ski Apache Disabled Skiers' Program (SADSP) offers snow sport experience and instruction to individuals, schools, rehabilitation centers, occupational and physical therapy centers, Special Olympics groups, Schools for the Blind and Visually Impaired, College for the Deaf or Hard of Hearing, and Veterans.
Reservations are preferred and walk-ins are taken as time and instructor availability permit. Groups are scheduled in advance and area schools and centers participate in a six week program after Christmas. Scholarships and a sliding fee are available.
SADSP depends on fees, grants, donations, fundraisers, and the Ski Apache Ski Resort to operate each ski season.
Lessons are one to one and tailored to the individual. SADSP's professional staff receive the most up to date training on all adaptive equipment and techniques. Instructors are members of and certified through Professional Ski Instructors of America.
Volunteers are the heart and soul of the program and are trained to assist instructors as well as to coach a student on their own.
SADSP is more than a sports program, but is a life-changing opportunity by building independence, strength and balance, life-skills, social-networking, health and self esteem.
