Strengthening New Mexico Nonprofits

Volunteer Finds Passion & "Pure Magic."

Gabe Castro describes United Way of Central New Mexico (UWCNM) staff and Community Fund volunteers as a family working hard to make a difference in our community, one grant cycle at a time. Now one of UWCNM’s most dedicated volunteers, Gabe became a part of the Community Fund’s community-driven grant process in 2016, after working on Presbyterian’s internal campaign.

As a donor, he appreciated the opportunity to review nonprofit requests for funding, and learn firsthand how the dollars collected during the campaign support the most vulnerable New Mexicans. He was struck by the passion of his fellow Grant Review Panel volunteers, and the amazing work being done across our four counties to make central New Mexico an even better place to live.

Think your small workplace campaign contribution doesn’t make a difference? Gabe says to think again. Having seen how the efficient Community Fund grant recipients can stretch a dollar, he says it is, “pure magic” just how far your dollars go to improve the lives of the most vulnerable central New Mexicans.
