Connecting Generations ABQ - A Home Sharing Program

Hands Across Time New Mexico, Inc.

Hands Across Time New Mexico, Inc. is currently accepting applications for our Connecting Generations ABQ Home Sharing program.

This innovative supportive housing program, modeled after several successful programs across the country, brings together two or more people in a supportive housemate-like Home Share match. Our first matches will be made between March and May of this year; we are currently processing applications and background checks and will begin the interview and screening process in February.

Though our program is open to anyone interested in supportive community living, our primary intention is to connect young adults who have emancipated without natural supports to more stable adults who can assist with the transition to adulthood. Priority is given to young people emancipating from foster care and older home providers who may be experiencing social isolation. These connections will benefit the greater New Mexico community, as young adult home seekers develop the life skills needed to be successful in society through working with our match support specialist and interacting with their home share partner; the home provider benefits from decreased isolation, assistance in the home and/or rental income as negotiated.

We are also working closely with other community organizations that serve these same populations in an effort to decrease duplication of services, and to provide continuity of care and case management for participants. The primary model for our program can be researched at HIPHousing.org
