Coordinator for the Multicultural Alliance for a Safe Environment (MASE)

Job Description
Main Areas of Responsibility: 

• Organize, through its CORE groups, tribes and communities directly affected by the legacy of uranium mining and milling contamination to voice their experiences, needs, and requirements for remediation and reparations.

• Advocate for a strong regulatory environment to prevent future degradation as well as provide compensation for those workers and their families who are crippled by medical conditions related to uranium mining, milling and transportation. (Partial List of Responsibilities)

Additional Areas of Responsibility: 

• Strengthen MASE Core Groups with resources, training, technical assistance and other aids to increase their effectiveness, build membership and develop innovative programs.

• Strengthen the organization of MASE with resources, training, technical assistance particularly in the area of organizational development, media strategies, and effective educational programs for policy makers, citizens, environmental and public health groups.

Other Information/Requirements: 

• Understanding environmental justice & social justice concepts, including environmental justice principles.

• Community and event organizing experience

• Competent knowledge of southwestern Indigenous Peoples’ culture & customs, in particular Navajo & Pueblo.

• Competent knowledge of Navajo and Pueblo governmental systems.

• Ability to establish priorities, work independently, and proceed with objectives without supervision.(Partial List of Requirements)
