Grantmaking Program Area Descriptions:

Science & Engineering and Medical Research: Supporting pioneering discoveries in science, engineering and medicine has been the Foundation's mandate from the beginning.  By funding the high-risk/high-impact work of leading researchers, the Foundation is laying the groundwork for new paradigms, technologies and discoveries that will save lives, provide innovative solutions, and add to our understanding of the world.

Undergraduate Education: The Foundation believes that a high-quality, well-rounded college education is vital for tomorrow's workforce and leaders.  The Foundation's undergraduate program promotes distinctive learning and research experience in science, engineering and the liberal arts at undergraduate colleges in Foundation-designated states (for more information, please visit www.wnkeck.org) and through national organizations that address undergraduate needs.

Type of Funding/ Funding Restrictions: Past research grants have been awarded to research universities and independent research institutions to support pioneering research and the development of promising new technologies, and to facilitate the purchase of advanced instruments where such instruments would further research ideas. Research projects should focus on basic research and not be clinical in nature.
