Mission/Giving Statement: To enforce the law and defend the interests of the United States according to the law; to ensure public safety against threats foreign and domestic; to provide federal leadership in preventing and controlling crime, to seek just punishment for those guilty of unlawful behavior; and to ensure fair and impartial administration of justice for all Americans.

The Department offers funding opportunities to conduct research, to support law enforcement activities in state and local jurisdictions, to provide training and technical assistance, and to implement programs that improve the criminal justice system.

Grantmaking Program Area/Agency Descriptions:

Office of Justice Programs: Discretionary grant funds are announced in the Federal Register or through program solicitations that can also be found through bureau and OJP websites.

Office on Violence Against Women: Administers 19 grant programs to help provide victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence, and stalking with the protection and services they need to pursue safe and healthy lives and enable communities to hold offenders accountable for their violence.

Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention: Discretionary funding ranges from single awards for research, evaluation, and technical assistance to multisite awards for program development.

Office for Victims of Crime: Administers the Crime Victims Fund to help victims and victim service providers with program funding.

Application Instructions: USDOJ requires all applicants to apply online either through its Grants Management System (GMS) at https://grants.ojp.usdoj.gov/ or through www.grants.gov (each grant will specify). Grant application instructions are online and vary for each grant. Please note, applications must include a Dun and Bradstreet Data Universal Numbering System (DUNS) number and register with the Central Contractor’s Registry (CCR). It is suggested that this be completed at least 30 days in advance of the application due date.
