About Us: 

Mission/Giving Statement:The mission of the Captain Planet Foundation is to give the next generation of environmental stewards an active understanding and love for the natural world in which they live. Our unique program of funding and supporting hands-on environmental projects is designed to encourage innovative initiatives that inspire and empower children and youth around the world as they work individually and collectively creating environmental solutions in their homes, schools and communities. 

Grantmaking Program Areas: Environmental Education

Grantmaking Program Area Descriptions:

Evironmental Education: Promote understanding of environmental issues;  Focus on hands-on involvement; Involve children and young adults 6-18 (elementary through high school); Promote interaction and cooperation within the group; Help young people develop planning and problem solving skills; and Include adult supervision

Type of Funding/Funding Restrictions: Does not make grants for the purchase of real estate; endowments; general operations expenses; capital or building campaigns; T-shirts and other promotional items; scholarships to attend summer camps; field trips that are not supplemented by a semester long (minimum) lesson plan; expensive equipment used by a small number of children; salaries; transportation costs. Organic gardens generally receive no more than $500 and adopt-a-stream no more than $400.  

Application Instructions: Grant application and instructions online. Grant proposals are reviewed over a period of three months from the date of the quarterly submission deadlines.  Commitment to follow up communication w/the Foundation (specific requirements are explained once the grant has been awarded).

Notes: Captain Planet Foundation will accept small grant requests for amounts between $500 – $2,500. Preferential consideration is given to requests who have secured at least 50% matching or in-kind funding for their projects. (Projects with matching funds or in-kind support are given priority because external funding is a good indicator of the potential for long-term sustainability of the activities).  Captain Planet Foundation may choose to fund a portion of the project budget that best fits within the foundation guidelines or contact an applicant for further discussion.
