• Be able to distinguish between an exchange transaction, conditional and unconditional grants.
• Understand how to account for grants that are considered conditional grants, including how to record advance payments for this type of grant.
• Understand how to account for grants that are considered unconditional grants, including how to reclassify net assets when the grant funds are expended.
• Be able to identify other grant requirements and how to comply with those requirements.
• Receive an overview of the Single Audit Act and how to comply with federal grants under this act.

Presenters
Janice Moen, CPA, has fourteen years experience as the CEO or CFO of nonprofit organizations and five years experience as an external auditor of governmental and nonprofit agencies. Janice is a faculty member of the University of New Mexico, Anderson School of Management. Janice has a BBA and a Master in Accounting from the University of New Mexico.
Leslie Oakes, Ph.D., is an associate professor at the Anderson School of Management at the University of New Mexico where she teaches accounting. Leslie has extensive experience working with nonprofit organizations in both the United States and Canada, focusing on health, cultural and social service organizations. She is also widely published in academic journals in North America, Europe and Australia. Leslie is committed to assisting small to medium-sized nonprofits thrive in New Mexico and particularly enjoys working with those who find financial management challenging.
