Background and Overview:
Historically, New Mexico nonprofit organizations have not had the capacity to write grants or respond to federal or state funding opportunities. In order to increase capacity within our nonprofit organizations, the NM Broadband Collective has embarked on creating a Technical Assistance and Grant Writing Fund to support nonprofit organizations with technical assistance and grant writing expertise. This Fund will be used to identify grant writers and technical assistance professionals that can support “access to broadband” projects and programs in rural, Native and BIPOC communities. The overarching objective is to develop grant writers throughout New Mexico with capacity to write grants for hard to connect communities.
The purpose of the fund is focused on the following areas: technical assistance to support applications for federal funding; (2) training grant writers with expertise on broadband and applying for federal funds; and (3) compensating grant writers to write grants for organizations and communities in “hard to connect communities” (i.e., communities that currently do not have easy access to broadband.) Initially, we are exploring funding grantwriters that serve Pueblo and Navajo communities and Doña Ana, Grant and Luna counties.
